What to Expect

West End welcomes visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Come visit us for a worship service, Sunday School, or a church event!

Not sure what to expect?

  • Our Sunday services last about an hour and include music, responsive readings, Bible passages, and a message or sermon. The worship bulletin (available as you walk in the front and side doors) lists the order of the service, and includes the words to prayers and responses you might not know. Usually, words written in bold are words the congregation says together. There will be an asterisk next to times in the service when people are invited to stand if they are able. Visitors are always welcome to attend and participate, and to sit in whatever pew feels comfortable.
  • Our worship style is traditional, with organ music and a choir, shared prayers such as the Lord’s Prayer, and a sermon that often deals with life’s challenges and a deeper understanding of Christian values. But traditional doesn’t mean unfriendly or boring! We also welcome a variety of music guests, hold holiday events, and invite special participants (such as our Girl Scout troop).
  • A nursery with a caring and experienced attendant is available for children during Sunday School and the worship service. Of course, children are also welcome to attend the service rather than staying in the nursery!
  • For visitors with mobility issues, there is a ramp on the Baker side of the building (between West End and Baker Funeral Home) as well as an elevator that allows access to the Fellowship Hall. Our sanctuary includes pews that accommodate wheelchairs. In addition, hearing assistance devices are available in the narthex, just inside the front doors.
